Scene Study/Cold Reading - Class Policies, Tuition & Incentives (FREE Audits)

Ken Lerner Studio (818) 753-7744
Monday Night “Scene Study/Cold Reading” Class Policies 1/1/07

• Scene Study/Cold Reading is on Monday nights with four classes each month. Arrive and load in at 6:30 P.M.

• An open forum to trade “Industry War Stories” will begin at 6:45 P.M. (Auditions, Agent/Manager meetings)

• The actors scheduled to perform in the first two scenes for each class must be at the Studio, loaded in and ready to begin set design at 6:45 P.M. If you’re late and your scene is scheduled to be performed, your scene will be rescheduled to go up at the end of the night.

• Class will begin promptly at 7:00 P.M. and all cell phones, pagers, watches etc. must be turned off.

• A minimum of five works will be scheduled to perform every week. Each actor must bring to every class a notebook, pen, and a copy of any material they’ve been assigned or approved to perform.

• Every month Ken will select material for you to perform, assign you a scene partner and a role that’s right for your type. You will be guaranteed to perform two out of the four Mondays every month.

• If schedules permit and Actors would like to double work, they will have the opportunity to perform a cold reading that Ken will provide, or an approved monologue or a second scene. (Ken encourages actors to take advantage of double working as they have the opportunity to perform three or four times in a month.)

• Due to the fact that each actor has the opportunity to perform at least twice each month, with a scene partner, monologue, or cold reading; tuition for class will not be pro-rated and is non-negotiable.

• If you miss a class it’s your responsibility to check in with Sandy Campanella, the class monitor, so you’re prepared for the next week and up to date with any class announcements. (818) 720-1230 Cell

• To cancel a scheduled performance, you must speak with the class monitor by 5:00 P.M. on Friday.

• If you have a problem with your scene partner, ask Ken for advice or to be reassigned with another actor.

• A copy of every scene or monologue must be turned in, prior to performance, for the class library.

• Any scene or monologue may be filmed unobtrusively for post class review.

• Taking hard copy notes is encouraged and the use of a tape recorder is permitted.

• A career counseling session with Ken is available to actors who are enrolled in class for three or more consecutive months. The session will take place at the Studio, promptly at 6:00 P.M. before class begins. You must schedule with Ken at least one week in advance. Bring all materials you wish to discuss to the session.

• You must be enrolled in class for consideration to participate in Studio Productions.

• All actors are responsible for their own hair; make-up, wardrobe, set, sound and lighting designs.

• Ken must safety check all firearms before the scene begins.

• The use of real alcohol is not permitted while performing on stage.

• Candles, open flames and smoking are not permitted while performing on stage.

• On the night you complete your second work, Ken will immediately assign you a new scene partner and new material – so you’re prepared to perform at the next available opportunity.

Tuesday Morning “Cold Reading” Class Policies 1/1/07

• Cold Reading is on Tuesday mornings and is an ongoing class. Arrive at 9:15 A.M.

• Actors will have 45 minutes to review sides provided by Ken from a television or film script.

• An open forum to trade “Industry War Stories” will begin at 10:00 A.M. (Auditions, Agent/Manager meetings)

• Each actor will work in every class session.

• Actors will read opposite another classmate as if they were reading flat. (Like a Casting Director.)

• Ken will critique your read and give notes on how to better your technique in order to book the job.

• Actors will immediately rework the performance so they can apply Ken’s notes.

• You may be excused from class without penalty if you call at least 24 hours in advance.

• Actors are encouraged to bring to class a notebook, pen and two different colored highlighters.

• Actors are also encouraged to bring to class an extra copy of any audition material they’re going to read for. Ken will instruct as if it were a Private Coaching Session with an emphasis on booking the job.
